Terms of Service

1. What Nuru is

Nuru is an online directory and communication platform that connects members of the diaspora with verified professionals in their home countries. Nuru is not a payment processor, employer, staffing agency, or party to any contract between a client and a freelancer.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Nuru. By creating an account, you confirm that you are 18 or older and that the information you provide is accurate.

3. Account responsibilities

• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account.
• You must not impersonate another person or provide false information.
• You must not create multiple accounts or fake accounts to manipulate reviews.
• You must not use the platform for any unlawful purpose.

4. Freelancer verification

Freelancers who apply for the verified badge must submit a government-issued ID and/or university degree for manual review. Submitting fraudulent documents will result in permanent account termination. Verification does not constitute an endorsement by Nuru of a freelancer’s skills or work quality.

5. Payments and transactions

Nuru does not process, hold, or transfer money between users. All financial transactions are conducted directly between clients and freelancers using third-party services (such as Sendwave, Remitly, or bank transfers).

Nuru strongly recommends that all clients:

• Never pay 100% of the project fee upfront.
• Agree on written milestones before any money changes hands.
• Use Nuru’s built-in Milestone Agreement tool to document the scope and payment schedule.

Nuru accepts no responsibility or liability for any financial dispute, loss, or fraud arising from off-platform transactions.

6. Prohibited conduct

You may not:

• Scam, defraud, or deceive other users
• Post spam, fake reviews, or misleading information
• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
• Attempt to take client or freelancer relationships off-platform to avoid returning to Nuru
• Upload malware, viruses, or harmful code
• Scrape or harvest user data without permission

7. Reviews

Reviews must be based on a genuine interaction with the reviewed party. Fake reviews — including reviews created by a freelancer using a second account — will result in permanent banning. Nuru reserves the right to remove any review that violates these terms.

8. Banning and suspension

Nuru reserves the right to suspend or permanently ban any account for violating these terms, including but not limited to: fraud, scamming, uploading false verification documents, harassment, or any conduct that harms the safety or integrity of the platform. Banning decisions are final.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

Nuru is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the quality, accuracy, or reliability of any freelancer’s work. Use of the platform is at your own risk.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Nuru shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, including financial losses resulting from off-platform transactions.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via email. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
